Material Testing Methods
- Tensile Tests
- Measure the elasticity and strength of metal specimens. The process literally pulls the sample apart. During the process the mechanical properties are monitored and recorded.
- Rockwell & Brinell Hardness Testing
- Measures how hard the surface of a metal is compared to an international standard. The test lowers a weighted indentor on to the metal and then measures the depth of the indent.
- Vickers Micro-hardness Testing
- Measures the hardness of a metal sample at the microscopic level.
- Charpy Impact Testing
- Measures the brittleness of a metal specimen. The amount of force needed to break the specimen correlates to the brittleness of the material.
- Fracture Toughness and Fatigue Testing
- Measures the ability of a material containing a crack to resist fracture and is one of the most important properties of any material for virtually all design applications.
